Oxbow Lake has Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Bluegill and other sorts of Panfish, Rock Bass, Crappie, Little Yellow Perch, Catfish, Gar, Cisco, Bowfin and other species in smaller numbers. As Oxbow Lake has progressed from an oligotrophic body to a mesotrophic lake, the Yellow Perch has declined in numbers and accordingly, as a feeder fish for predators.
Fish stocking has recently been halted following discussions with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). Through these conversations, it became clear that the amount of fish needed to appropriately stock the lake, relative to its size, would require a budget that is not currently financially sustainable or feasible. As a result, the stocking program is suspended until a more viable solution can be found (May 2026).
Fishing
Catch and release are always encouraged, but taking some home for a tasting meal isn’t a bad idea either.
